Position Overview: We have an open locum tenens opportunity for a board-certified or board-eligible Gastroenterology Physician in a highly regarded healthcare facility in southern Illinois, near Ashley. This role involves inpatient, call-only coverage, providing critical support to the community and assisting the existing medical team with specialized care.


Position Details:



  • Location: Illinois (near Ashley)

  • Start Date: ASAP

  • End Date: Ongoing

  • Schedule: Call-only coverage

  • Holidays: Coverage includes major holidays (New Years Day, Independence Day, Memorial Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas)


Requirements:



  • Board Certification: Required; board eligibility also acceptable

  • Fellowship Training: Required in Gastroenterology

  • Illinois Medical License: Active and unrestricted, or eligible to apply

  • Certifications:

    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) Required

    • BLS (Basic Life Support) Required




Responsibilities:



  • Inpatient Coverage: Hospital-based role with a mix of both general and specialized gastroenterology consults.

  • Patient Volume: Approximately 10 patients per shift, with an average of 3 admissions.

  • Rounding: Both inpatient rounding and admissions are required.

  • Call Type: Beeper call with a 30-minute response time.


Skills & Procedures:



  • Upper GI Procedures: Endoscopy with biopsy, foreign body removal, bleeder cautery, variceal injection

  • Advanced Skills: ERCP (diagnostic and therapeutic), PEG insertion

  • Lower GI Procedures: Colonoscopy, sigmoidoscopy (flexible and rigid), polypectomy, small bowel and liver biopsy

  • Additional Expertise: Endoscopic ultrasound, esophageal manometry, Sengstaken/Blakemore tube management

  • EMR System: Epic

  • Credentialing: Fast-tracked credentialing available for quick start

  • Support Staff: Comprehensive nursing and administrative support on-site
