Locum Tenens General Surgeon Needed (ASAP - Ongoing)


An excellent opportunity is available for a Board-Certified General Surgeon to provide locum tenens coverage near Olympia, WA. This position is perfect for a skilled surgeon looking to support a busy inpatient facility during periods of supplemental need. The facility is seeking coverage starting in January 2025 and continuing through April 2025, with potential for ongoing opportunities throughout the year.


Job Overview:



  • Start Date: ASAP - Ongoing (First need beginning January 17, 2025)

  • End Date: April 2, 2025 (with potential extension)

  • Coverage Type: Call Only

  • Practice Setting: Inpatient

  • EMR System: Epic


Responsibilities:



  • Patient Volume: Expect to manage between 5-10 patients per shift.

  • Admissions: Not required.

  • Rounding: Not applicable for this position.

  • Call Duties: Provide call coverage for general surgery, handling a variety of cases that may arise during shifts.

  • Procedures: Expected to perform general surgery procedures as needed, based on the specific cases that come in during call coverage.


Key Requirements:



  • Board Certification: General Surgery (Board Certification required; Fellowship preferred).

  • Licensing: Must hold an active Washington state medical license or be eligible for licensure through the Interstate Medical Licensure Compact (IMLC).

  • Certifications: ABLS, ACLS, ATLS, and BLS not required, but will be discussed during credentialing.

  • Credentialing Timeframe: Estimated at 90 days, so early application is encouraged to ensure a smooth start date.


Additional Details:



  • Schedule: Coverage is required during Q1 2025, with specific dates for January through April. However, the facility anticipates a continued need for supplemental coverage throughout 2025, so candidates with long-term availability are preferred.

  • Clean Files: Providers must have a clean malpractice and credentialing history, as requested by the MSO (Medical Staff Office).

  • Team Environment: This locum tenens role is designed to support the team during PTO and CME absences, ensuring patients receive seamless care.
