Are you a certified Adult-Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner (AANP) seeking a meaningful opportunity to support Veterans in a flexible, locum tenens role near Madawaska, Maine? We are a government contractor dedicated to serving our nation's Veterans, and we're actively searching for skilled General Medicine Nurse Practitioners to conduct Compensation & Pension (C&P) exams and Separation Health Assessments (SHAs). This locum tenens position offers a PRN (as-needed) schedule, allowing you to tailor your work hours to your availability and contribute to a rewarding cause.

What You'll Do:



  • Conduct comprehensive C&P exams and SHAs for Veterans, primarily using an interview-based approach with some physical assessments (range of motion, muscle strength testing).

  • Analyze medical records and complete standardized forms within a secure government provider portal.

  • Collaborate with the healthcare team to ensure accurate assessments and timely reporting of Veteran needs.

  • Complete follow-up administrative tasks such as addendums, medical opinions, and diagnostic reviews as required.


Who You Are:



  • Active certification as an Adult-Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner (AANP) (required).

  • Current and active license to practice medicine in Maine (required).

  • Familiarity with musculoskeletal, diabetes, and cardiovascular conditions (required).

  • Proficient in METs testing, evaluating and diagnosing respiratory, cardiovascular, and neurological conditions.

  • Comfort and experience with interview-based patient assessments (preferred).

  • Ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and prioritize tasks.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to build rapport with Veterans.

  • Access to a personal laptop (excluding MACs).

Additional Notes:



  • New providers will be required to complete a training program on Disability Benefits Questionnaires (DBQs) and obtain a DMA certification (if not already certified).

  • DBQs must be submitted within 48 hours of exam completion.

  • Goniometer use is required for range of motion assessments.
