Locum Tenens Pathologist Needed near Central City, IA (j-235987)
Seeking a Qualified and Experienced Pathologist for Flexible Coverage
Are you a dedicated and highly skilled Pathologist passionate about supporting patient care through accurate diagnoses? We're searching for a qualified physician to join our team in a growing community near Central City, IA. This temporary opportunity offers a flexible schedule, starting as soon as possible (ASAP), with ongoing needs.
Responsibilities:
- Deliver high-quality pathology services to a hospital setting in a supportive environment.
- Review and interpret a variety of surgical and cytology cases (average 40 per day), collaborating with physicians to ensure accurate diagnoses.
- Provide critical expertise in hematology, including reviewing out-of-the-norm peripheral blood smears and resolving difficult antibodies in the blood bank.
- Attend and provide immediate adequacy statements for fine needle aspirations.
- Supervise other healthcare providers as needed within the pathology department.
- Maintain accurate and detailed medical records within the CoPath electronic documentation system.
- Participate in weekend/night call coverage on a 1:2 call ratio.
Qualifications:
- Active and unrestricted Iowa (IA) medical license or eligible for temporary licensure.
- Board certification in both Anatomic Pathology and Clinical Pathology by the American Board of Pathology (ABP) is mandatory.
- Additional board certification by the American Society of Cytopathology (ASCP) is preferred but not required.
- Minimum of five years of experience in a hospital-based pathology setting is preferred.
- Strong clinical judgment, decision-making skills, and a comprehensive knowledge base in pathology.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with physicians, laboratory staff, and other healthcare professionals.
- Demonstrated commitment to providing high-quality patient care through accurate and timely diagnoses.
Additional Considerations:
- This opportunity offers a flexible work schedule with one week per month devoted to weekday shifts (Monday-Friday, 8:00 am - 5:00 pm) and call coverage on weekends/nights.
- You will be collaborating with a team of dedicated professionals, including pathologists, 4 histotechnologists, 1 pathology assistant, and 2 cytotechnologists.
- Familiarity with Leica cryostats, Olympus microscopes, and the SurePath method of preparation is a plus.
