Position: Pediatric Neurologist Location: Durham, NC MPLT Healthcare is looking for physicians who Understand the Urgency, Never Give Up, and Have the Courage to Excel in the forever changing medical industry! We have numerous opportunities for an experienced Pediatric Neurologist with highly competitive pay rates in Durham, NC. Position Details:
Need is 3-15 Months
Board Certified Neuro, NC License - Required
Neurology with special qualification in child neurology - Required
Procedures required - rarely overseeing a lumbar puncture; familiarity with EEG
Clinic: Monday - Friday afternoon - availability for 1 urgent outpatient consult per day
Call Rotation: 1:Inpatient pediatric neurology consults. 1 week service. Weekdays: coverage 7a-6 pm with rotating night call schedule amongst group (Tues-Thurs). 24 hour coverage M, F, S, Su + sometimes holiday day. Night/weekend coverage home-call with in-house resident as 1stline for consults.
# of patients per day: Typically 2-15 to round on hospitalist service, PICU, NICU, other services (surgery, heme-onc etc); 2-6 new consults per day. Usually with 1-2 residents or 1 resident and 1 medical student.
# of procedures/days of procedures required: Rarely overseeing a lumbar puncture (maybe once every few months)
Types of cases: Mostly cases of kids seizures/seizure-like episodes coming in for new onset seizures, characterization of worsening spells, status epilepticus, medication optimization for seizure control, neonatal seizures. Also kids with acute severe headaches, GBS, altered mental status, dystonia, hypotonia. Also phone calls from outside providers re new seizures and other acute problems.
Is ED coverage required? Yes, second line (resident sees patient in person and staffs by phone; personally coming to ED is rarely necessary for the attending)
Is Trauma coverage required? NO
Practice Size: 7 Physicians (including 2 epileptologists who do not round on the consult service), 2 Midlevels, Active residency program with 2 pediatric neurology residents and 6 adult neurology residents per year rotating on the consult service.
